HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The community is invited to attend the 5th Annual Honor and Remembrance Ceremony at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 2150 Mount View Rd., Marriottsville. The event will take place Sunday at 2 p.m. during which time the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services will honor and remember volunteer and career fire and rescue personnel who have passed away.
Current, former and auxiliary fire and rescue personnel and their families are welcome to attend. Face coverings are required to be worn, according to the HCDFRS. The Garden of Valor at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens was dedicated on June 21, 2012. The parcel of land has been set aside for firefighters, paramedics, police officers, emergency medical technicians, sheriffs and other emergency workers.
“No matter how many years have passed, nor the distractions within times of crisis, we will never forget those who sacrificed their lives in service,” said Howard County Executive Calvin Ball in a statement. “These heroes and their families deserve our thanks, appreciation and our eternal gratitude.”
The ceremony will feature the FireBrigade Pipes and Drums of Greater Baltimore, a combined fire and rescue HonorGuard representing the organizations of those being remembered, as well as guestspeakers and dignitaries. Face coverings are required for this event.
“We will continue this important tradition of honoring those that have gone before us,” said Howard County Fire Chief William Anuszewski. “Throughout their lives, these individuals set the standard at the highest level of what it means to protect and serve. We will not forget them.”
