The New Canaan Garden Club was unable to hold their annual meeting and awards luncheon in June due to COVID restrictions. The membership came together at Waveny House in early September to kick-off the year on the back lawn, socially distanced to celebrate and acknowledge the talents and accomplishments of 14 garden club members that received awards. The Co-Presidents, Lauren Bromberg and Anda Hutchins accepted a certificate from the Garden Club of America honoring the club’s 100th year anniversary in the GCA.
The mission of the New Canaan Garden Club is “to stimulate the love of gardening among its members and the members of the community, to promote conservation and to encourage civic planning and beautification.” Joining the Garden Club of America (which was founded in 1913) led to NCGC’s involvement in national issues relating to conservation and the environment. Current civic projects in town include the stewardship of Irwin Park, Waveny Walled Garden, the new Parterre Garden, and the Historical Society Garden.
